Privacy Notice
How we collect, use and look after your personal data when you use this website or get in touch with us. We’ve tried to keep it short and in plain English.
Who we are
This website, divorcelawyersingapore.com, is operated by M/s Maurice Lee & Tan (“we”, “us”). We are the organisation responsible for personal data collected through this website, and when you contact us through the details on it.
If you have a question about this notice or your personal data, contact our Data Protection Officer at cs@mltanlaw.com.
What we collect
- When you use the enquiry form: your name, your WhatsApp number or email address, how you’d like us to contact you, and the brief message you write.
- When you WhatsApp or email us: your WhatsApp number or email address, your name, and anything you choose to tell us. WhatsApp messages also pass through WhatsApp’s own service, which has its own privacy terms.
- When you browse the site: our web host automatically records basic technical information, such as your IP address, browser type and the pages requested, to deliver and secure the site. We don’t use analytics or tracking tools.
Please don’t send confidential details or documents through the form. A line or two about what you’d like to discuss is enough. If you mention other people, such as your spouse or children, please share only what’s needed for us to respond.
Why we use it
- To respond to your enquiry and arrange a conversation, using the contact method you choose.
- To carry out conflict checks, so we can confirm we’re able to act for you. This may involve recording your name and the name of the other party, such as your spouse.
- To provide legal services, if you decide to engage us. How we handle your data in that case will also be covered in the terms we agree with you.
- To run and secure this website.
- To meet our legal and professional obligations.
We don’t sell your personal data, and we don’t use it to send you marketing.
Your consent, and withdrawing it
When you submit the form or contact us, you consent to us collecting, using and disclosing your personal data for the purposes above. You can withdraw your consent at any time by giving us reasonable notice at cs@mltanlaw.com.
When you do, we’ll tell you about the likely consequences. For example, we may no longer be able to respond to your enquiry or continue acting for you. We’ll then stop collecting, using or disclosing your personal data, unless the law requires or allows us to continue.
Seeing and correcting your data
- Access: you can ask for a copy of the personal data we hold about you, and information about how it has been used or disclosed in the past year.
- Correction: you can ask us to correct any error or omission in your personal data.
Email cs@mltanlaw.com and we’ll respond as soon as reasonably possible. In some cases the law limits what we can provide, for example where it would reveal personal data about someone else. We don’t charge a fee for access or correction requests.
Who we share it with
- Our team, only those who need it to help you.
- Service providers who help us run this website and our communications, such as our website host (GoDaddy) and our email provider (Microsoft 365), only as needed for them to provide their services, and on the basis that they protect your data.
- Others involved in your matter, such as the courts or other parties, if you engage us and it’s needed to act on your instructions.
- Where required or allowed by law, for example to regulators or law enforcement.
Transfers outside Singapore
We store your personal data in Singapore and don’t transfer it outside Singapore. Messages you send us on WhatsApp are carried by WhatsApp’s own service under its terms. If that ever changes, we’ll update this notice and make sure your data receives a standard of protection comparable to that under Singapore’s Personal Data Protection Act.
How we protect it
We take reasonable security steps to protect your personal data against unauthorised access, use, disclosure, copying, changes or loss. These include limiting access to people who need it and using a secure (HTTPS) connection for this website. No method of sending information online is completely secure, so if you’d prefer a different way to contact us, just let us know.
How long we keep it
We keep personal data only as long as it’s needed for the purpose we collected it for, or for legal or business purposes. After that, we delete it or remove anything that identifies you.
We keep enquiries and related records for 12 months, unless a longer period is required by law.
Cookies and website data
Cookies are small files a website stores on your device. This site uses only cookies that are essential for it to work, if any. We don’t use analytics, advertising or tracking cookies. Our fonts are hosted on our own website, so no font service receives your details. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings.
Calls and messages
We’ll only contact you about your enquiry, using the method you’ve chosen. We don’t make marketing calls or send marketing messages.
Changes to this notice
We may update this notice from time to time. The latest version will always be on this page, with its effective date at the top.
